CrossFit was founded by former gymnast Greg Glassman. He opened his first gym in 2001 in Santa Cruz California. By 2005, there were 13 CrossFit affiliates, growing to 10,000 by 2014. Today there are over 13,000 affiliates in 120 countries.

CrossFit is a strength and conditioning system built on constantly varied, functional movements executed at high intensity. CrossFit exercises involve the entire body, using Olympic lifting progressions, basic gymnastic skills and high-intensity cardio combined with other movements, beneficial in daily life.
